New Horizons spacecraft at Pluto. Computer illustration of NASA's New Horizons spacecraft over the icy surface of Pluto. New Horizons launched from Earth on 19th January 2006 and took 9 years to reach the dwarf planet Pluto, arriving mid-2015. It will spend 15 months studying the dwarf planet, using cameras and scientific equipment to gather data, sending it back to Earth with the large () dish antenna (white). New Horizons will also travel beyond Pluto to study other objects in the Kuiper Belt.
