THE first meetings held by the Methodists atStapletoii were started by the Rev. Henry Boehniin the spring of 1835. These meetings were heldfor a time at the house of Mrs. White, corner ofCebra and St. Pauls avenues, and were near to thespot on which Kingsley Church now stands. avenue was then known by the suggestivename of Mud lane, and people who remember it inthose days affirm that it lived up to its name. Among those who attended these meetings andlaid the foundations of Methodism in this part ofthe Island were Mrs. White, \VilIiam Thorn, Mrs. Ivirby, Capt. and Mrs. Hart, William How-ard and Janu-s White. The attendance at these meetings increased rap-idly, and it was soon necessary to provide largerquarters, and the services were transferred to theAcademy.
