NCCS (SW) John Vargas was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and began his naval career in August of 2001 after graduating from Elk River High School. Following recruit training at Recruit Training Center, Great Lakes, Illinois; he attended Undesignated “A” School. In March 2009, he reported to NRD San Antonio. While aboard NRD San Antonio, he completed his first tour as a Division Leading Chief Petty Officer, in the West Texas Division. In March 2013, he transferred to NRD Chicago, where he was promoted to the Rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. First serving as Division Leading Chief Petty Officer and earning his Assistant Chief Recruiter Qualification and then serving as the Officer Assistant Chief Recruiter. In March 2018, He reported to NRD Jacksonville where he served as the Enlisted Assistant Chief Recruiter. He also graduated from the Senior Enlisted Academy class 226 in New Port Rhode Island. In March of 2021, he reported to NTAG Carolina where he earned his Chief Recruiter Qualification and is currently serving as the Chief Recruiter. His service awards include Four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Six Navy and mare Corps Achievement Medal, two Navy Unit Commendation Medal, Two Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, One Military Outstanding Volunteers Medal, and various service unit and campaign award.
