Photograph by David Coleman. The dining room at Ferme du Caillou stands as a crucial historic space where Napoleon Bonaparte made his final battle preparations on the morning of June 18, 1815. The room preserves the setting where the Emperor breakfasted and conducted his last strategic planning session before the Battle of Waterloo. The three joined Louis XVI-style oak tables, covered with Tournai linen, are original to farmer Boucquéau's house and were used by Napoleon to display his battle maps while issuing orders to his assembled General Staff. The room's artifacts include a pastel portrait of Napoleon by Henry de Groux, the original 1815 farmhouse crucifix, autographs of Napoleon's Field-Marshals and Generals, and period engravings of local farms requisitioned by the armies. This preserved space represents the last location where Napoleon exercised his command before his final battle.
