Researcher Prepares Sample for Safety Analysis

Sandia researcher Aaron Highley prepares a complex metal hydride sample for reaction kinetics analysis in the Simultaneous Thermogravimetric Modulated Beam Mass Spectrometer (STMBMS). This instrument, which was developed in the 1980s to assess the reaction kinetics that underlie the safety and aging behavior of high explosives and rocket propellants, is now being utilized to investigate the safety properties of automotive hydrogen storage materials.
