It must have belonged to a great man,perhaps a high priest, for the floors of the rooms were made of large slabsof red stone excellently polished. Below this Greek house I found, asusual, a layer of debris with but few stones ; then a number of house-walls composed of small stones joined together with earth; and beneaththese again immense masses of burnt and partly-vitrified bricks.
