The Canterbury Caledonian Society pipe band from New Zealand standing on the line before competing at the Perth Highland Games. Pipers and drummers line up at what players call "the line" before entering the competition circle. Pipe bands in grade 1 play one of 2 march, strathspeys and reels. The bands also have to play in a "medley" competition and also have to play one of two. The medley is a selection of various tunes such as hornpipes, marches, slow airs and reels. Pipe bands from all over the world competed in the Perth Highland games. The bands are here to compete at the World Pipe Band Championships in World Pipe Band Championships is a major competition held in Glasgow Green and brings pipe bands from all over the world to compete throughout the various grades. There was approximately 8,000 musicians and the event was also streamed live.
