The ceremony of lay-ing the corner-stone took place at the close ofsession 1867-8, and the superstructure was com-pleted in 1869. The edifice was known as the Chapel. It wasa large building of two stories. The whole of theupper story was fitted up for a chapel and lectureroom. The lower story was sub-divided into threerooms, one of which was assigned to the EdmundBurke Society, one to the Periclesian Society, whilethe other was appropriated for the use of libraryand museum. the $12,000 LOAN.
