Engels was a German philosopher and communist activist as well as being an historian, social scientist, sociologist, journalist, and businessman His father owned a number of large textile factories in Salford, England, and Barmen, Prussia (now Wuppertal, Germany).Engels developed what is now known as the Marxist theory in cooperation with Karl Marx, co-authored The Communist Manifesto and actually gave Marx financial support. As a writer he wrote under the name He wrote under the pseudonym "Friedrich Oswald" .
