Goth Convention weekend at Whitby, North Yorkshire. Goths are welcome Hundreds of black clad Goths descended on this historic and picturesque seaside town of Whitby. Many travelled in by car and some, in creepy looking black hearses. This last weekend of April, they came for an extra special reason - to pay their respects to fellow Goth, Sophie Lancaster who was knifed to death by two youths in Lancashire. The memorial for Sophie was held close to a statue of one of the town’s most famous sons, Captain Cook. The Goths convention is held twice a year in the town –the last weekend of April and again on Halloween’s in October. Goths associate Whitby with its famous dark character, Count Dracula and his maiden vampires who prowl the grounds within the ruins of Whitby Abby at night, high up on a hill overlooking the sleepy town.
