A Persian shamshir, 19th Century. Single-edged wootz-Damascus blade (somewhat stained) with interrupted fullers on both sides. There is a cut gold-inlaid inscription cartouche on each side at the root of the blade. Iron quillons with remnants of gold inlay. Horn grip scales severely damaged by insect activity. Iron pommel cap. Wooden scabbard with wire sewn, leather cover and (corroded) iron suspension bars. Length 95 cm.
