The illustration is from Weisskunig, a general record of the life, in prose, of Maximilian I, emperor of Germany from 1493-1519

With cannon, spears, and cavalry, armed forces in the early 1500s, during the years leading up to and during the Reformation, lay siege to a city, only to be rebuffed. The illustration is from the Weisskunig, a general record of the life, in prose, of Maximilian I, emperor of Germany from 1493-1519. The Weisskunig was said to be an autobiography but it is thought to have been largely a work by his secretary Treitzsauerwein.
