Green broad leaf woodland in Devils Gorge

The name 'Les Gorges du Pont du Diable' comes from the beliefs and fears of the dark ages when the old devil was considered part of everyday life. The gorge proper is the result of erosion by the River Dranse de Morzine slowly eating its way into the rock. The gorges form a link between the Lake Geneva region and the Massifs of Chablais. Parts of the gorge reach a depth of 60 metres.
