Grasshopper warbler. Historical artwork of a grasshopper warbler (Locustella naevia). Both the common and scientific names of this small bird relate to its high, insect-like song. It is a migratory bird, breeding in scrubland and wetland in Europe and western Asia and spending the winter in northern Africa and more southern parts of Asia, including northern India. It feeds almost exclusively on insects. The grasshopper warbler can reach a length of around 13 centimetres. This artwork was drawn by Archibald Thorburn (1860- 1935).
