We cannot forbear mentioning again two seedling carna- tions at this range that will be exhibited at the shows this winter and probably introduced to the public next year. Our favorite is an entirely new departure in carnations, a frilled and fringed flower fully four inches in diameter. It seems to be wonderfully free in blooming, the stems are long and the color is a delicate pink, shading to a deep shell-pink in the heart. The other is of the ordinary type, fully as large, and a pure rose- pink. It has been planted in large enough quantity to be tested beside the older varieties and thus far it is easily the best of its color. Louis Haury & Sons had a nice lot of fancy ferns in their windows. Their pot plants were fine this year. At their greenhouses they had a good supply of cut flowers. Geny Bros, did a heavy holiday busi- ness. Their poinsettias were excep- tionally good, while they had the best specimens of solanum seen in this city. They cut roses and carnations freely, their growers having timed" the crops just right. Mclntyre Bros, had a great display of cyclamens and other plants, also good sweet peas. Charles Trichler sold out his stock early. As he does not do much retail work, he has no downtown place. He already is propagating for spring. He has the best collection of ferns in the south and is planning to specialize on this item. F. B. OLEN COVE, N. Y. Horticultural Society. The annual meeting of the Nassau County Horticultural Society was held in Pembroke hall, Glen Cove, December 11.
