The tributaries of thisstream, near its mouth, were all staked in 1898, but none ofthem proved to be what is termed paying propositions. On this stream severalclaims were found to be of considerable value, and mining hasbeen carried on upon several claims on this creek up to thepresent time. Duncan creek was staked in 1901-1902. Thiscreek is a tributary of the ]\rayo river, which enters the Stew-art river at about 175 miles from its mouth. Claims ofgreater value were found on this stream than the Stew-are river, but the min(>rs on Duncan have had consider-able difhr-ulty in working certain portions of the creekwhere the bed-rock is very deep (over 100 feet) owing to theirshafts being flooded by w
