Residents living in the shadow of South East London’s biggest regeneration development say they fear the area losing its soul as the £250 million scheme nears completion. Kirsten Steinmetz, 35, who has lived in a terraced house opposite the development for two and a half years, said the tower blocks weren’t in keeping with the feel of the neighborhood. She said: “I’m not a fan of them - is anyone? “They bring the wrong feel to the neighborhood. They’re ugly and they’re different from the rest of Lewisham. All the other buildings are small and they’re massive. “We don’t have a garden and I used to sit outside the front of the house in the sun but because they’re so tall they’ve blocked all the sunlight out. “They should have built a development with more social housing. The flats they’re building aren’t helping local people. Lots of flats in the first phase of the development still aren’t sold so Lewisham doesn’t need more expensive flats. “We don’t have the Tube and the DLR and trains are already packed in the mornings - how are people going to get to work?” Neighbour, Maurika Ovuru, 55, who has lived in the area for 20 years, shared her distaste at the size and style of the blocks She said: “I think it looks like a mountain. It’s disgusting - it’s too much. “The blocks are overlooking this street and it’s like a huge elephant blocking out all the sunlight.
