A. F. The national society has also been the means of bringing the individual members and sections of the country into closer and more friendly relation- ship. The societies, both the national and the local, have also, to my mind, been partially responsible for the success of the trade papers of today, for with the increased knowledge, and the desire for greater knowledge, it became necessary to have some medium by which it couM be quickly and constantly disseminated, and the increased success of the trade papers was the natural result. Many other benefits resulting from the existence of the national society could be enumerated, but I fear I shall weary you. The Ijocal Societies. Our state society has done and can do locally what the national society has been doing nationally. When I first connected myself with the florists' business I found many in- stances where one florist, having a sur- plus of something, would rather let it go to waste than let his near-by com- petitor have it, always hoping that his competitor's customer would come to him and he thereby be the gainer. The idea of letting a competitor have the last of any stock was not to be thought of. This has all been changed, and to my mind the local society deserves the credit. This society has been the means of bringing together the best men in our business, and by closer association has shown each that the competitor is also a man, just as refined as himself, and that he is just as willing to live and let live.
