Robert Owen Garden and archway. New Lanark World Heritage Site

New Lanark World Heritage Site. A restored Victorian cotton mill and factory village from the 19th century, and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was unique in that the business owner was social welfare pioneer called Robert Owen. He ran a successful business but also provided for his workers and gave them good homes, fair wages, free health care, and a new education system for the villagers. He also established first workplace nursery school in the world.
