Rutherford backscattering spectrometry. Researchers working on installing a Rutherford backscattering spectrometer (RBS). This technique is also called high-energy ion scattering (HEIS) spectrometry. The backscattering of a beam of ions hitting the sample is analysed to reveal details of the sample composition and structure. Photographed at the Process Development and Integration Laboratory (PDIL) of the Science and Technology Facility (STF) at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Golden, Colorado, USA.
