The impressive buildings of the "Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien" and of the "Naturhistorisches Museum Wien" are part of the Ringstraßen design. the plans go back to Carl von Hasenauer design at a competition in 1867, but were altered and enlarged by Gottfried Semper on request of the emperor Franz Joseph 1st. Work on the museums was commissioned in 1871 and in 1891 they were opened to the public. Maria-Theresien-Platz, 1010 Wien.
