Salivary gland stone. Close-up of the mouth of a 12-year-old male patient with oedema (fluid accumulation) caused by a stone (calculus) in the submandibular salivary gland. The appearance of stones (calculi) in the salivary glands is known as sialolithiasis. The formation of stones (lithiasis) in any organ, such as gallstones and kidney stones, occurs when mineral salts precipitate out of solution and clump together.
