PACIFIC OCEAN (Jul. 24, 2021) Engineman 1st Class Katrina Burgess, from Vietnam, front, and Culinary Specialist 1st Class Jermie Harris, from Baltimore, fight a simulated fire during a flight deck firefighting drill on the flight deck aboard Independence-variant littoral combat sheet USS Jackson (LCS 6). The Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) is a fast, agile, mission-focused platform designed to operate in near-shore environments, winning against 21st-century coastal threats. The LCS is capable of supporting forward presence, maritime security, sea control, and deterrence.
