Grey sky early morning view 'Crooked Street' section Lombard Street at Hyde Street towards Coit Tower, San Francisco, USA

Lombard Street, between Hyde Street (behind the camera) and Leavenworth Street (at the foot of the hill), is a one-block section with eight hairpin bends known as the 'Crookedest Street' in the world. Crooked Street was built in 1922 to reduce the hill's natural 27 per cent gradient, in those days too steep for most motor vehicles. Paved withe red bricks, the street is one-way for vehicles passing downhill. A sign at the top recommends a speed limit of 5 mph (8 km/h). An early morning view towards Telegraph Hill.
