Picturesque view of WWII memorial at Devon’s Slapton Sands beach. The memorial was presented by the US Army to the residents of the area for their assistance during WWII beach landing rehearsals. During WWII the beach was used to practice D-Day landings for the invasion of the codenamed Utah beach in Normandy. During these landing rehearsals the beach was the scene of a tragic incident, which culminated in the loss of nearly one thousand American servicemen.
