Illustration of a scimitar-toothed cat (Homotherium serum) in Alaska standing over a Dall sheep (Ovis dalli) that it has killed. This extinct cat was found in Eurasia, Africa and the Americas during the Pliocene and Pleistocene (around 4 million to 28 thousand years ago). Scimitar cats had enlarged canine teeth with serrated edges that they used to bring down their large mammal prey.
