There have been a number of shjillow^ cuts, ditches, and pitsnade in prospecting for corundum, but apparently none was foundn i^lace. The corundum that is found is often wrapped in mica. ALABAMA. The Appalachian crystalline belt passes inider the Cretaceous andater sedimentary formations in the central part of the State near!^Iontgomery. Representatives of the peridotite belt have been foundn the vicinity of Dudleyville, in Tallapoosa County, and corundumlas been found in fragments on the surface both in this and Coosa, theid joining county on the west.
