An example of a common Blue butterfly (Polyommatus icarus) which is widely distributed throughout the UK. Like most 'blues' the female is predominantly brown, with a dusting of blue scales around the body. Sitting on Common Bird's-foot-trefoil, which is a favourite food plant for the caterpillars. Note the uninterrupted white border to the wings.
