The inner plate requires a pressure of two andone-half ounces per square inch to cause it to open. Theoperation of the valve will thus be readily understood. Atslow speeds only the outer plate will open, but as the speedincreases and the volume of air to be handled becomes greaterthe intermediate plate wall be opened, and finally for maximumperformance all three plates will be in operation simiiltane-ously.
