Mendelian inheritance. Computer artwork showing the possible genetic outcomes for the offspring of parents that are both heterozygous (have two different alleles, or forms, of the gene) for the selected trait. Each parent passes on one allele to their offspring. Which allele is passed on is randomly selected. This will result in half of their offspring being heterozygous for the allele and half being homozygous (having two copies of the same allele).
