Seropositive RA wassignificantly correlated withsmoking in men but notwomen. Compared withlifetime non-smokers, theexcess risk was in ex-smokers and in currentsmokers, excluding potentiallyconfounding factors. Smoking probably does notcause RA but may be a pathogenicfactor. Despite the risks associated with this class of drugs, anassessment of mental status hadbeen recorded in fewer than 40per cent of patients.
