Captain Cunninghamwas twice promoted. He was also awardedthe Distinguished Service Cross. He wasunmarried and the only son of Mr. andMrs. Frank Simpson Cunningham, 1318Forest Avenue, Evanston. He waseducated in the public schools and grad-uated from the University of Illinois in1913, after which he entered into theconfectionery business for himself. Hewas admitted to the First Officers Train-ing Camp, and received a commission assecond lieutenant. After leaving FortSheridan he was ordered to Camp Grant,111., and finally transferred to the AviationSchool at Austin, Tex., from which placehe was ordered to France as a casual of-ficer, sailing in March, 1918.
