Alan Kane Punk Shop London United Kingdom. Architect: Alan Kane (artist) 2013. Detail of rubber masks and brains in a cabinet

Punk Shop is an installation that messes with the gallery as a place for an art experience. In doing so he pays a backhanded tribute to the liberties extended by these spaces for artists through a notional fusing of the adolescent Joke Shop, a favourite environment of Kane’s, with his first adult art experience of walking through the door of ‘Seditionaries’ in 1977, Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren’s boutique on the King’s Road.
