Blue and white Swatow dish, China, 2nd half of the 16th century. Ming dynasty blue and white Ping He ware dish (from the Ping He kilns), painted in the centre with birds and trees in a rocky landscape below a reserved band of flowers, plants and insects. The foliated rim has a band of fish scale pattern alternating with reserved cartouches of single flowers.
