China's Taizong prepares to campaign against the Tatars

Taizong led a revolt in 618 that reunited the rival empires of the Tatars (also spelled Tartars) to the north and the Chinese to the south. As a result, his father, Gaozu (also spelled Kao Tsu and Li Yuan), established China's Tang dynasty. Taizong succeeded his father in 626.
