In the southern half of the Statethe average departure from the normal was —°, the defi-ciency in mean temperature being most jn-onounced in portionsof Cumberland, ^Mercer, ]Monmouth and Ocean counties. Theabsolute maximum temperature for the month, 94°, was lowerthan has been recorded for July in a period of 20 years. At22 stations the temperature failed to reach 90° during themonth.
