Overtaken on Snowshoes. is perhaps the greatest fishing stream in the world, this report claims that during the past forty-five years, salmon of the approximate value of $100,000, have been taken from this stream, and that every acre of this vast expanse of water has produced annually $ of food fish, and they attribute the maintenance of the supply of fish in this stream as due to the artificial propagation of fish. We may not be able to obtain such results in value from Montana waters, but by pursuing the work of fish culture on a broader and more scientific basis there would seem to be no good reason why we ought not to be able to increase our fish supply ten-fold over the present supply, and have an abundance of good cheap and wholesome food for all the peo- ple of Montana, and also help out other states with such food. We have many small lakes and ponds that are well adapted for the propagation of pike, perch, bass, catfish and other species of fish de- sirable for food; .many of these lakes are land-locked and there is no good reason why fish suitable for such waters should not be planted therein and made to contribute, as they ought, to the food supply of the state.
