Punishment of Loki

In Norse mythology, Loki is the personification deity of mischief. He murdered Baldr, the god of joy and peace, and was punished by being bound to three slabs of stone with the entrails of his son, Narfi. A snake was placed above his head whose venom poured on his face. Loki's wife, Sigyn, collected the venom in a bowl but had to empty it periodically. When she did, Loki could not protect his face from the searing poison.
