Business was exceptionally dull dur- ing the first part of last week, but August 18 and 19 the demand was ex- cellent, as there was a large quantity of funeral work. Outside of this, how- ever, the activity was limited. The supply is excellent in summer flowers. Gladiolus receipts are increas- ing, especially of America, Chicago White, Perfection and Arizona. There are a fine lot of asters and a number of good summer roses. Some of the grow- ers are sending field-grown carnations into the market that are of good qual- ity. Lilies are more abundant, gigan- teums the most plentiful, then rubrums. Cattleyas are scarce, as also are dendro- biums. Some excellent hydrangeas are to be had, and Golden Glow, snap- dragons and coreopsis make up the vari- ety. Tuberoses in pots are to be seen in some of the windows. Various Notes. W. J. Vesey, Jr., left August 18 for eastern points, intending to spend sev- eral days in New York during the S. A. F. convention. Good lilies, orchids, roses and asters are being cut at the Vesey greenhouses. Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Shive motored to Fostoria, O., last week, where they spent several days. They were accom- panied by their four sons. Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Lanternier have returned with their family from an outing of two weeks at Snow lake. Mr. and Mrs. Clem Lanternier motored to Snow lake last week for a visit
