The new linewill include miles of roadway, connecting Marysville,Auburn and Nevada City. It is proposed to operate the carswith 1,200-volt direct current, distributed by an underrunningthird rail. Roadway. Marysville will be the western terminus of the presentlines. This city has a population of 5,500. Here the newroute will connect with the 65 miles of operating lines of theNorthern Electric Company. From Marysville the new roadwill extend 34 miles east to Limekiln Junction. From here onebranch will be built almost directly south, 17 miles, to Au-burn on the Southern Pacific Railway. A second branch will. Proposed Lines of tne California Midland Railroad. extend from Limekiln Junction northeast to Grass Valley andNevada City, 12 miles. There is now a line of the NevadaCounty Traction Company operating between the two latternamed towns. From the main line at Marygold, 8 miles fromMarysville, a spur miles long will be built to the miningcenter, Hammond. The total length of route as now plannedis miles. Sidings, each 1,000 feet long, will be placed 4miles apart. As the locality to be served by the new line is in themountains, heavy earthwork and several large bridges will benecessary. Near Marysville a trestle 9,000 feet long willcross the Yuba river and a marsh. The earthwork quan-tities for the entire project have the following totals: Excava-tion, 519,000 cubic yards; embankment, 1,128,000 cubic maximum rate of curvature is 16 degrees and the mostsevere grade will be one of 3 per cent for 7 miles.
