This is the Phoenix Shot Tower used for the manufacture of shot for guns and rifles. Built 1828 in Baltimore, Maryland by the Merchant's Shot Company. At 234 feet, it was the tallest structure in the USA until completion of the Washington Monument in Washington DC.
