Growths, both malignant andbenign, originate in this sinus, and when they assumelarge proportions cause the eye of that side to bulgeoutward. This condition is known as enter this sinus it is necessary first to remove themiddle turbinate in order to obtain a perfect view of theoperative field. CHAPTER XXIV DISEASES OF THE NOSE Examination of Patient.—For the examination of thenose or throat the patients head should be on a level. Thelighl should be on the right side of the patient on alevel with his ear, and may be either gas or electricitywith a proper condenser (Fig. Gl). For the examination of infants the nurse should wrapthe baby completely in a blanket or sheet with the headprotruding. She should hold the baby with its headresting against her left shoulder and her left hand sup-port ing it in front. The most effective method of holdinga fractious child is for the nurse to take him in her lap,confine his knees and legs between her own, place herarms under his and her hands pressed against each sideof his head (see Fig. 6, p. 72).
