Renaissance church and castle (XI century), Calaf.


Castle, Calaf. Located on a hill at the top of the village. Must have been built shortly after the year 1015, when the bishop of Osona Borrell donated hills of Calaf (Kalafum) and Ferrera Calafell so that Alces fortifications are repopulated the term. During the following centuries were masters in the viscounts of Cardona, under the eminent domain of the bishopric of Vic. The Cardona kept possession until the termination of the gentlemen, the nineteenth century, while the castle was demolished in 1781, along with the church of San Pedro, located within the walled area. The remains that have come down, probably the result of an expansion of the XII-XIII denote a castle which was quite remarkable. Had pentagonal with rounded corners. The walls reaches a thickness of 3 m and a height in some sections, more than 10 m. At the northeast corner are the remains of a circular tower. The door faces the side of the people. It has recently been restored. Sant Jaume church, Calaf. The works of this temple began in 1603 at the same place where there was the church of San Miguel. It opened for worship in 1639 when it had not yet completed the façade or bell. The facade be finalized in 1670 and the church was completed in 1720 while the bell tower remained unfinished and was not completed until the late nineteenth century (1889), which also belongs time portal (1899). The building consists of a wide nave vault, even in the Gothic style with side chapels between buttresses. The inside should highlight the windows and keystones.
