The Tower of Refuge in Douglas Bay, Isle of Man A very recognisable feature, it is built on the top of conister rocks which are submerged at high tide and prior to its building, claimed many lives. The total cost was £254 and subscribed by 63 islanders. Sir William Hillary made up the shortfall and no lives have been lost since
