Aquaspirillum serpens bacteria, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). This is a colony of rod-shaped cells, which can develop when the bacteria are cultured for some time on agar slants. A. serpens is more usually helical in shape. These are aerobic freshwater bacteria. Magnification: x6000 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
