Simon Augustus S/i(rmans Saw-mill was built at themouth of the Big Plover, near the foot of Conants Rapids,in 1854. Mr. Sherman operated it for many years, but thebusiness is now carried on by his sons, C. A. and E. A. Wright dr Chafee manufacture sash, doors, blinds andmoldings, screen doors, and other work of the kind. Theshop is on the side track, near Clarks mill, and the firmdoes a good business. Twenty-five men are employed in thebusiness of sawing, piling and handling. Meehan Bros. &• Co?s saw-mill is located on the river,southwest from the Point. It was constructed in 1866,gives employment to 125 men, and cuts 6,000,000 feet ayear. The firm was formerly P. & J. Meehan. N. L. . is now a member. E. M. Copps & Planing A/ill dresses 50,000 feet aday, and employs ten men, at a cost of §5,000 a year. Theproperty is valued at $6,000. The mill was built in 1874,in company with Knox Bros. In 1877, Kn
