Nearly 200 demonstrations have taken place today in northern Syria in areas under the control of the Syrian opposition, particularly in the city of Idlib. Demonstrators carried the Syria revolution flags and demanded the overthrown of the Syrian regime and the release of detainees from government's jails. They were also calling for the rebels not to give up the fight and surrender their weapons, and to stand up against any attack on Idlib. Many of the demonstrators were originally from the Al-Ghouta, Aleppo, Damascus, Hama and Deraa areas, as many internally displaced Syrians are currently living in Idlib as a result of the conflict. With Idlib remaining the latest major opposition stronghold in Syria a seemingly imminent full-scale offensive on Syria's Idlib province has been looming large over the last few weeks. Yet, during the last two months the Syrian government forces have urged the rebels in Idlib province to lay down their weapons and agree to a reconciliation deal or they will have to face a wide-scale offensive. UN officials have warned that an offensive on Idlib would trigger a new wave of displacement for 800,000 people and have appealed to both sides in the conflict to find a solution that would spare civilians
