St Govan's Chapel built in C11th on the site where the Irish Abbot lived as a hermit in the C6th and was buried under an ancient stone altar. Small hollow beside N door (front L) used to be a healing well; crutches were still being abandoned on the altar tomb in the C19th. Steps beside the altar lead up to a rock cleft and the Bell Rock. There are legendary connections with Sir Gawain, one of King Arthur's knights.
