Detail from a 4th Century AD Roman floor Mosaic showing the popular and successful charioteer Marcianus with the palm of victory. He is driving a chariot drawn by a team of four horses, known as a Quadriga, from a stable called Ã'GetuliÃ“. The name of the leading horse is given as Ã'InluminatorÃ“. Chariot races were extremely popular with the Romans. The racing stables from which they came could be recognised by their colours.
