The larger hand wheelshown in the illustration of this machine regulates thepressure of the grinding blocks on the rail, while thesmaller wheel holds the blocks to prevent end play andadjusts them for vertical wear. The length of thegrinding surface is 17* in., the stroke is 5* in. and thespeed is 350 strokes per minute. This machine is thelargest and most expensive of those used by this com-pany, which has now five of these machines with twomore on order. More than 20,000 ft. of rail
